The Farthings, Leatherhead Wins Best Retirement Living Development Award

The Farthings

Beechcroft’s The Farthings in Leatherhead added to its cache of awards when it won the Best Retirement Living Development at the prestigious Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2019.   This accolade follows an award in the Best Retirement Development category of the WhatHouse? Awards last November.

The Evening Standard New Homes Awards champion excellence across the housing spectrum.  Judged by readers, the winners have everything that buyers want in the category – including thoughtful use of space, sustainability, value and style.

Beechcroft’s Managing Director, Chris Thompson, accepted the award from international rugby star, James Haskell at a glittering ceremony held in the ballroom of London’s Dorchester Hotel.  The award ceremony, now in its 28th year, was hosted by comedian Sean Lock and attended by the leaders of the property industry.

“We are absolutely delighted that The Farthings has won yet another award in the retirement category,” comments Chris Thompson.  “We invest a great deal of time and effort into the design of our retirement communities, paying close attention to every detail from landscaping to specification.  It is extremely satisfying when our work is recognised in this way.”

The Farthings comprises 35 elegant, new, two and three-bedroom homes designed for the over 55s and set in landscaped grounds just off Randalls Road within walking distance of Leatherhead town centre.  Although The Farthings is just a short distance from the town centre and railway station, Beechcroft will be providing a private bus service to and from the town centre so owners are able to leave their cars at home.  Every elegant new home at The Farthings provides outside space, either a balcony or garden and a minimum of two double bedrooms, both large enough to accommodate a carer if necessary.

Architecturally, the buildings are a mix of exposed brick and timber which give the scheme a warm, welcoming appeal.  Parking is conveniently close to the houses and apartments and there is a large owners’ lounge and guest suite.  Gardens are well-stocked with plants and shrubs and are crossed by level, easy-to-navigate pathways with seating areas.

At The Farthings, an on-site Estate Manager handles the day-to-day administration of the development, the cleaning and maintenance of the communal areas – and is on hand to offer help and advice and to keep an eye on properties whilst owners are away.

The unique relationship between Beechcroft and the neighbouring care home ensures that owners at The Farthings have access to the facilities on offer at the care home including a café, cinema room, a leisure and wellness programme, social events, daily hot meals and a laundry service.

At The Farthings, a selection of three-bedroom apartments and houses are available with prices starting from £650,000 for a first-floor apartment with private balcony and from £595,000 for a three-bedroom house with sun room, balcony, terrace and private garden.
