Twist Homes' Sondes Place

Twist Homes’ Sondes Place restoration takes top honours at the UK Property Awards

Boutique Surrey-based developer Twist Homes has beaten off strong competition to win ‘Five Star - Best Residential Development Surrey’ for The Mansion at Sondes Place, at the prestigious UK Property Awards.

The development, which comprises the transformation of a historic Thomas Cubitt-designed mansion into six ‘ultra spec’ residences, was recognised at the prestigious awards ceremony held at The Royal Lancaster hotel in London. The awards, which form part of the wider International Property Awards, are judged by an independent panel of 80 industry experts, chaired by Lord Caithness, Lord Best, The Earl of Liverpool, and Lord Thurso - all members of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament.

Guy La Costa, founder of Twist Homes, comments: “Rarely do we discover a building for restoration of such beautiful proportions and architectural merit. We are delighted the judges have recognised the meticulous approach we have taken to restoring the mansion to its former glory. The ultimate satisfaction is seeing owners move into the apartments and enjoy 21st century living in the elegance and proportions of the original mansion.”

Set back from a quiet tree-lined road on the outskirts of attractive Dorking town, Sondes Place was originally built in 1850 by renowned master builder Thomas Cubitt. Having then housed venerated residents including the Cartier family and an Indian Maharaja, it had since been used as offices and had fallen into disrepair, before Twist Homes acquired it in 2014.

Today, the sympathetic yet thorough restoration of original features combined with modern interior design has resulted in a unique living proposition, with five apartments plus one house, all enjoying parkland surroundings at the foot of the Surrey Hills area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
